Review of the Film ‘Kill’ at TIFF 2023

‘Kill’ is a movie about the monsters inside us. It starts with a love story between Amrit and Tulika, but that’s just a way to motivate our hero to lose his righteousness. The real story begins when they board the Rajdhani Express, which quickly turns into a dangerous train ride.
Fani is the leader of a group of bandits who plan to rob the train. Unfortunately, Amrit and his friend Viresh are also on the train, along with Tulika and her family. Viresh impulsively kills one of Fani’s men, making the situation personal for Fani. He starts killing passengers one by one until he reaches Tulika and her father.
The plot of the movie is simple, as it focuses on extreme action rather than a complex storyline. The romance between the characters may not be very compelling, but it sets up the conflict between Fani’s ambition and Amrit’s need for justice. As the violence escalates, each fight scene feels like a new level in a video game, with intense action and gore.
The actors’ performances are crucial to the success of the movie. Raghav Juyal is an unexpected choice for the villain, but he convincingly portrays Fani as a ruthless and unhinged character. Lakshya plays the hero, Amrit, with great physicality and rises to the challenge of the action choreography.
While the action choreography is well-executed, the makeup and special effects department could have been more innovative. The gruesome violence portrayed on screen should have been visually interesting, but it falls short in this aspect. However, this doesn’t ruin the overall experience of the movie.
‘Kill’ is not a movie for everyone. It is for those who enjoy watching intense and violent scenes, such as a man’s skull being crushed against a toilet seat.
Note: ‘Kill’ is currently being screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2023 as part of the Midnight Madness program. The movie has a rating of 3/5.
