Eleven days before the first ODI against England, in Pune, Dhoni informed the BCCI that he decided to renounce his captaincy from both ODI and T20 formats. “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has informed the BCCI that he wishes to step down as the captain of the Indian cricket team for One-Day International and T20 International formats of the game,” a press release from BCCI CEO Rahul Johri said.
Despite relinquishing his captaincy, the good news is that Dhoni will still be available for selection; something his fans will truly cherish. Also, freed from the responsibilities of leading a side, Dhoni will now be able to focus on his batting that has taken a toll over the past few years.
Following Dhoni‘s announcement, the cricket fraternity rallied behind their pragmatic leader to pay tribute to his accomplishments as the Indian captain. Amongst fans, teammates and former cricketers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also paid a tribute to Dhoni with a unique video.
